Acclamati dalla critica, candidati al Grammy® Award come “Best New Artist”, i Tank and The Bangas tornano alla ribalta con il loro terzo album realizzato in studio, Red Balloon, in uscita il 13 Maggio su etichetta Verve Forecast.
Red Balloon è nato durante una pausa forzata – rispetto ai ritmi tumultuosi cui i nostri sono soliti durante i tour – a causa della pandemia, che è però stata utile per riprendere fiato e mettere a fuoco l’identità della band, che ha potuto così interrogarsi sulla propria arte e ritrovarsi, alla fine, come un gruppo ancora più unito e coeso di prima.
Così, il nuovo album porta la band ad un livello superiore, in cui la scrittura e i testi ad un tempo svelano i mali dell’America e celebrano la bellezza della vita della comunità afroamericana.
“È stato il miglior tentativo di catturare l’essenza di ciò che accade quando ci troviamo a suonare insieme” dice la band. Red Balloon viene diretto dal cuore, e non solo. Ti vuole far commuovere, pensare, amare – si spera – e sì, amare anche persone che appaiono molto diverse.”
Prodotto in larga parte dai Tank and the Bangas, l’album (in tutto 16 tracce) è stato registrato presso i Bangaville Studios di New Orleans ed i Revival Studios in Los Angeles. Red Balloon contiene sostanziosi contributi da parte di Alex Isley, Masego, Questlove, Lalah Hathaway, Big Freedia, Jacob Collier, Trombone Shorty, The Hamiltones e Wayne Brady.
Contestualmente all’annuncio, il gruppo presenta il nuovo singolo “No ID” ed il relativo video. “No ID” incita a essere accorti e non lasciare a chiunque il privilegio di entrare a far parte delle nostre vite: nel finale della canzone la frontwoman e vocalist Tarriona “Tank” Ball canta “If we gon’ go deeper, Ima need to see what’s beneath the surface of your smile and if you’re worth staying a while.” Guarda il video QUI.
I Tank and the Bangas, band di New Orleans, si impone all’attenzione nel 2017 vincendo all’unanimità il noto NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest. Nel 2019 il gruppo debutta su disco con Green Balloon, pubblicato su etichetta Verve Forecast e destinato a raccoglier un ulteriore ed assai più vasto plauso. Segue nel 2021 l’EP Friend Goals, con CHIKA, Duckwrth e PJ Morton.
Nel Corso della sua breve ed intensa carriera la band si esibisce sui palchi di noti programmi come “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Austin City Limits” e “TODAY.” Tra i tanti festival citiamo Coachella, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, il Newport Jazz Festival.
